Since I’ve been 17, I’ve been in optical. Joined SPECS in 1997, while studying at the University of Minnesota. Graduated, but never left SPECS. Come in and you’ll see why. Love really bad horror flicks and yoga.
Kelly Schmidt | ABOC, Certified Optician
Started at SPECS OPTICAL in 1998, and have been slaving away ever since. I love what I do. Like to go for walks, to fish and to spend time with my family and friends. Favorite color: green. 1993 South West High School graduate—been a South-Side Girl my whole life.

Worked as an optician since 2000, in far and away places—San Francisco and Vail, Colorado. Joined SPECS OPTICAL in ’07. When not working, you’ll find me at the lake with my best buddy Hank—my beloved pooch.

Several times a year, Nancy and John travel to eyewear shows around the world, taking note of the latest trends and catching lunch with the designers. They've also been known to share their favorite restaurant and destination advice with friends and customers—if you catch them in town!

NYC kid, moved to Minnesota in ’86. Purchased SPECS in ’95 with Nancy. When not working at the shop, I’m riding my bicycle, motorcycle, or traveling—preferably near the ocean.
Nancy Krant | Owner + Business Manager
A good ol’ Minnesota farm girl, who purchased SPECS OPTICAL with John in ’95. I take care of the business end of the shop. But when I’m not stuck at my computer, I like to travel with John, enjoy my garden, and play with Emma, THE DOG.
